US telecoms giant to create 400 jobs in Limerick

Communications and technology company Verizon is expected to created 400 jobs in Limerick over the next two years.

The company is setting up a centre of excellence in the city.

Verizon is one of the big global companies involved in providing international communications with voice data and video services.

It has been active in Ireland since 2006 and employs 1,000 people in Dublin.

The centre will be based at the 1BQ building that is currently being built on the city’s riverfront.

Verizon has retained 10,000sqm of the new development on Bishops Quay, which is due for occupation in spring of next year.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney said the announcement should not be taken for granted.

“This is a significant commitment and endorsement of Ireland, and in particular, the skilled workforce in Limerick,” he said.

The investment is backed by http://knalpotbelah.com/ IDA Ireland which said Verizon’s decision to expand would position Ireland well for further investment in the sector.
